About this work

A lion devouring a donkey. Next to the donkey lies a dead goat. On a small hill, a fox watches. The fable describes how King Lion invites all the animals to the palace. The fox does not trust the lion and waits at the entrance of the palace. He discovers that none of the other animals leave the palace alive. The moral of the story teaches that one must never trust tyrannical rulers.
