About this work

The centaur Nessus prepares to gallop away with Deianira over his shoulders. In the background stands Hercules on the riverbank, where Nessus has just set him down. In his hand he holds a bow. A stream of blood runs over the back of Nessus, with his right hand he pulls at the arrow shot by Hercules into his back.
