About this work

View of the city of Bethlehem where a great massacre takes place near Herod's palace. Soldiers drag children from the arms of desperate mothers to kill them with swords. Numerous dead children lie scattered on the ground. In the margin, a three-line Bible quote from Matt. 2:17–18 in French.
