About this work
Leander, a youth from Abydus, swims every night to the other side of the river Hellespont, guided by a burning beacon, to meet his beloved Hero. On a stormy night he drowns and is carried away by nereids. In the margin a twelve-line poem, in four columns, in Latin. Below it a two-line inscription with a dedication in Latin.
