St. Aegidius of Nîmes, a French hermit from the eighth century AD. He sits reading a Bible in a forest. Beside him is a tame hind, his attribute. In the background, a hunting scene. King Wamba of the Visigoths attempts to shoot the hind dead with a crossbow.
