About this work
Portrait of the merchant Aalbert Wels in a frame with a garland. He sits at a table with his right hand in the left half of his jacket. On his chest hangs a medallion with two portraits. In his left hand he holds a sheet of paper with a text. His left arm rests on the Bible. Below the portrait the name and function of the sitter with a twelve-line praise poem.
