About this work
Diana, as a nature goddess, kneels before Poetry in an ancient temple, in front of a pedestal on which the title in Latin. Poetry holds a portrait bust in her hand, against which leans the caduceus, the symbol of reason. Next to the pedestal stand Minerva (Wisdom) and Hercules (Strength). Two putti in the foreground play with a medallion on which the portrait of Titus Lucretius Carus is depicted.
