About this work
In a palace on a throne sits a woman (possibly the personification of Civilization), she holds a lion on a leash. Next to her a stack of books by famous philosophers. With her feet she tramples a devil. She looks up at a statue of Venus, goddess of fertility, in her hand a staff of Diana of Ephesus. In the foreground figures who run away in fear from the room. On the stairs lies a pair of scissors and a spool of thread. Numbered in the center bottom: II.
