About this work
Theseus and Ariadne walk through a landscape. Ariadne holds a thread from the ball of yarn in Theseus' hands. The scene is largely surrounded by a motto band with the words Virtutis Amore and a reference to the eighth book of Ovid's Metamorphoses, in which the story is told.
