About this work

Minerva sits next to History and looks over her shoulder at the book in which she writes. History looks up at three allegorical female figures (Truth, Poetry and a third figure). Behind them Father Time, Fame and a two-headed figure who with a chisel strikes an inscription in a pyramid. In the air fly four putti, with symbols of eternity in their hands, carrying the portrait of writer Edward Simson.
