About this work

At the entrance of a temple a fight is taking place. The priest Mattathias, the first leader of the Maccabean revolt, is about to strike a man at an altar with a club. The man being attacked is possibly the Jew who, according to the king's command, wanted to offer a sacrifice on the altar in Modeïn.
