About this work

Saint Werenfridus is depicted as a priest with tunic, chasuble, and stole. He carries a ship with his coffin, his attribute, in his hands. After his death, disputes arose over the place of his grave. The coffin was placed in a boat, and the boat drifted upstream to Elst, where Werenfridus had been pastor. This print is part of a series of Dutch saints.
