About this work
Before the peasant court of Puiterveen, to the left stand the weeping Fobert and his father, and to the right the pregnant Swaantje between Jonker Jan and her parents. Swaantje is pregnant by the son of the lord of Puijterveen, but Fobert is accused of this act. The corrupt lawyer for Fobert is pleading, while the lawyer for the opposing party listens. Behind the table sit the bailiff and the aldermen. Scene from the third act of the play Beslikte Swaantje, en Drooge Fobert; or de boere rechtbank, by Abraham Alewijn.
