About this work
Christ is laid in the rock tomb by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. They lift his body, lying on a shroud, from the lap of Mary. She throws her arms despairingly to heaven. At the tomb stand Mary Magdalene and two men. In the margin an inscription in Latin.
