About this work
A Jesuit kneels in a landscape, before an open Bible, and looks up at the Christ Child who has appeared before him. He is accompanied by an angel. At the trees on either side, the skeletons of Adam and Eve. Above them in heaven, the Trinity, surrounded by the Virgin Mary, angels, and various saints. At the very bottom, the damned in hell. In the margin, a two-line inscription and a dedication in Latin.
