About this work

Louis Alexander of Bourbon, count of Toulouse, depicted half-length in armor with a sash. The oval frame, topped with a crown and bearing his coat of arms at the bottom, is surrounded by weapons and banners. Louis Alexander was the son of the French king Louis XIV and his mistress Françoise Athénaïs de Rochechouart, also known as Madame de Montespan.
