About this work

Saint Thomas Aquinas, kneeling before a crucifix, receives a chastity belt from two angels. He looks up at Mary with Child on a cloud deck, surrounded by angels and cherubim. A putto holds another putto with a cardinal's hat against him, referring to the rejection of Saint Thomas of high ecclesiastical dignities. To the right in the background, Saint Peter and Saint Paul come through a gate.
