About this work
Venus sits under a rose bush and tries to stop Adonis, who is going hunting, because she knows he will die. In the foreground on the left, a hunting dog lies by a quiver. On the right, Amor holds another hunting dog. Below the scene, a twelve-line inscription in Latin and a Latin proverb in a cartouche.
