About this work
In the center, a front and back view of the so-called Coupe des Ptolémées from the abbey of Saint-Denis; an onyx cameo with scenes of Dionysus from classical antiquity that was used as a Christian chalice during the Middle Ages. Around this chalice are prints with capitals showing religious scenes in the background, a depiction of the Flight into Egypt, and a enthroned cleric adored by popes and cardinals. At the bottom, two angels are depicted on a decorative ornament. The representations were made by different printmakers.
