Portrait of the lawyer Johan de Witt, Grand Pensionary of the province of Holland. He is dressed in a cloak and stands in front of a curtain with the murder of the De Witt brothers behind it. In his right hand he holds a seal with the Dutch lion, symbol of the Republic.
