About this work
The Longueval made a career as a military commander in the armies of the Spanish king and the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. He died in harness in 1621. This print commemorates the deceased count: the two upside down torches symbolize death. This is a proof impression, the text of which is not yet engraved, but written by hand.
