About this work
Group portrait of the members of the Royal Academy in 1768, in the drawing room of Old Somerset House. On the wall behind the model hang two portraits of Angelica Kauffmann and Mary Moser. On a shelf are casts of the bust of Homer and the Medici Mercury by Giovanni Bologna. On the far left sits Zoffany himself; behind him, with raised arm, Benjamin West. Paul Sandby is seen standing next to the lamp. Diagonally in front of him, with his hearing aid in hand, stands Sir Joshua Reynolds. Francesco Zuccarelli stands with a hand on his knee in front of the model.
