About this work

Rome during the months of January and February. On the right in the foreground travelers at a campfire. Shepherds drive their cattle towards the city. In Rome there are festivities going on around an obelisk on the Piazza del Popolo. A sword dance is performed and in the background spectators watch a horse race. At the top left and right the signs of the zodiac: the constellation Aquarius and the constellation Pisces.
