About this work
Family of alchemists at work in a workshop. On the left a man is melting metals on a stove and in the center a fire is stoked with bellows. On the right a scholar behind books. Three children escape the chaos by crawling through a hatch. In the background it can be seen how the family is taken in by an almshouse or hospital. Below the image two three-line verses in Latin.
