About this work
Vice-Admiral Jacob van Heemskerck meets the King of Ternate on Banda, March 1599. Under a cloth stretched between four palm trees are two gentlemen on chairs, assisted by an interpreter, in conversation. Around them local population has gathered. In the foreground a man in a boat, to the right of that on the shore five men, of whom the left one with a horn, sitting on a beam. Behind them four javelins against a wooden balustrade. Part of the illustrations in the travel report of the Second Voyage to the East Indies under Jacob Cornelisz. van Nes and Wijbrant van Warwyck in 1598-1600. No. 13.
