About this work
Mary and Joseph kneel before the Christ Child. Reproduction of the miraculous painting to which the victory by the combined armies of the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic League under Johan Tserclaes, Count of Tilly, at the Battle of the White Mountain (8 November 1620) near Prague was attributed. The painting was brought to the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome on 8 May 1622. On the painting, the eyes of all figures, except those of the Christ Child, are gouged out. On the print, they are filled in with pencil. The caption includes an explanation of this history. The print is part of an album.
