About this work
The announcement of the declaration of war in England on 7 April 1672 (Third Anglo-Dutch War), with in the background the embarkation of the ambassador Johan Meerman to Holland. A group of people reads a notice posted on the quay wall. The print is a fragment of a larger representation of the peace concluded with England on 19 February 1674, titled 'Vreede Handel tusschen Engelandt en ons' (FMH 2532).
