Proclamation Offering the Crown of England to the Prince and Princess of Orange, 1689

Proclamation of the offering of the crown of England to the Prince and Princess of Orange, 1689. Centrally a large plate showing the offering of the crowns to Stadtholder Willem III and Mary Stuart as King and Queen of Great Britain, in the palace of Whitehall. An inscription on the arch above the throne: "hic flos et fructus hic virtus forma decusque". Surrounding it are 11 numbered smaller scenes with earlier episodes. The episodes cover the departure of Willem III and his farewell to the States at Hellevoetsluis, the journey to and entry into London and formalities surrounding the coronation, then the journey of Mary following her husband, resulting in the second largest plate: a triumphant entry into London, finally (plate 11) an image of the fireworks set off over the Thames.
