Flora's Mallewagen, 1637

Flora's Mallewagen. Satirical print on the tulip trade of 1637. Flora in a sail-wagon, surrounded by the personification of Vain Hope (with anchor) and fools depicting greed, gluttony and other vices. In the mast a defecating monkey. Behind the wagon a group of men and women leaving their old trades and wanting to ride along. On the ground lie various types of tulips with names mentioned. On the right in the background the Zandvoort farmer and the Sheriff see how the wagon is swallowed by waves. In the corners four cartouches, bottom left the cartouche with the 'Comparitie der bloemisten tot Haarlem' around the table. The print is accompanied by a text sheet.
