About this work

Radagijs, king of Warmond, resists his Anglo-Saxon princess. Story situated in the year 534. Radagijs is a fictional figure from the historical romance for which this illustration was created, titled: Radagijs, king of Warmond. "In three songs, a story from the kingdom of imagination, made in a cheerful mood" by Willem Bilderdijk in 1819. The name is possibly derived from Radegast, the name of an Ostrogothic leader from the fourth century.
