About this work

The family of Jan Smidt, all robbers and murderers, executed on a square in Dordrecht, 26 October 1538. From the house bearing the coat of arms of Dordrecht, judges read out the verdict. In the presence of the assembled crowd, the three family members are condemned, then paraded on a cart, tortured, and finally burned. Coffins are dragged away by a horse.
