About this work
Execution by hanging on Alva's orders of the provost Hans de Greef, alias Spell or Spelleken, in Brussels, 11 February 1570. On the right, Spell kisses one of his associates. In the center, Spell hangs from the gallows with his sentence (sententie) on his chest. On the left, another of his associates is being whipped. This is the original large, uncut plate of no. 119. Without inscription but with title and heading of 5 lines in German.
