About this work
Allegory on the contrast between the tyranny of the Duke of Alva and the freedom struggle of the Prince of Orange in the Netherlands, ca. 1572. On the left the Prince of Orange sits on the throne with the personifications of the provinces of Holland and Zeeland beside him. On the right Alva on his throne with the personifications of the other enslaved provinces of the Netherlands kneeling and blindfolded before him. In the middle Tyranny drives Gelderland back to Alva's camp. With a header with an appeal to the reader in 6 lines and a caption of 4 verses of 4 lines each in German.
