About this work

The Catholic former mayors Quirijn Dirksz. Talesius and Lambert Jacobszoon are hanged by enraged Haarlem soldiers on 27 May 1573, along with ten other people, as an act of revenge. On the way to the gallows, Talesius is comforted by his wife and daughter.
