About this work
Proclamation of the Eternal Edict in front of the Antwerp Town Hall. On 27 February 1577 (the date shown on the print), the Eternal Edict was proclaimed in Antwerp. In it, the Governor Don Juan confirmed the decisions laid down in the Pacification of Ghent (signed on 8 November 1576). On a scaffold in front of the Town Hall, peace is announced and read aloud to the assembled audience. With a four-line Latin inscription. Numbered: 74. Printed on the reverse with Latin text.
