About this work
Allegory on the causes and consequences of the war. The personification of War (Bellum) rides in a triumphal chariot drawn by four horses, preceded by a procession of personifications of various elements that precede the outbreak of war. From the mountains above comes a procession with heroes and famous commanders from the Old Testament. On the left, the land and sea ravaged by war. In the clouds, the personification of Victory (Victoria) with a laurel wreath. In the cartouche in the upper left, a Latin text, printed below the print, verses with a biblical quote in Latin, French, and Dutch.
