About this work

Battle of Turnhout and siege of the castle at Turnhout, 24 January 1597. Depiction in two strips. Top: the advancing army under Maurice in pursuit of the Spanish troops of Ravels via Turnhout to the Tielenheide. Bottom: the battle on the Tielenheide and the fleeing Spanish cavalry. Bottom left a cartouche with two lions and the Dutch Maiden, the coat of arms of the States-General and the dedication to the States-General, right a cartouche decorated with flags and the coat of arms of Maurice and a verse in Latin.
