About this work
Allegory on Maurice and Spinola in the Jülich-Cleves Succession Crisis, 1614. The struggle between the States, represented as the Dutch Lion (Eendrachtig gewelt), and Spinola, represented as a griffin (Lant bespringher). The griffin extends its claw towards the tower of Aachen. On the left, Maurice, represented as the soldier (Getrouwe wacht) with a jug and cup. In the sky, the coat of arms of Jülich, Cleves, and Berg. With a four-column Dutch inscription.
