Window pane with a scene from the history of Metellus, crowned with a bust of Thomas Erpenius, 1627. Metellus returns after a long exile. Flanked by Pallas and Mercury, further decorated with vines, weapons, and putti. Below the central scene a verse of 6 lines. Part of a series of three allegorical window panes commemorating the imprisonment, flight, and exile of Hugo de Groot, 1619-1622. Made in 1627 for the house of Abraham Daatselaar, the merchant in Gorkum who helped Hugo de Groot escape.
