About this work

The swearing-in of the Peace of Breda by the English and Dutch delegates on 31 July 1667, which brought an end to the Second Anglo-Dutch War. Central representation of the swearing-in of the peace treaty. In the clouds, the Dutch and English maidens shake hands with Peace and other figures. Surrounding this are nine small representations of the naval battles fought during this war, the proclamation of the peace at Breda on 24 August, and the bonfires in Amsterdam on 7 September 1667. All scenes are marked with the letters A-K and provided with captions.
