About this work

Admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter is mortally wounded during the naval battle at Agosta on 22 April 1676 between a combined Dutch-Spanish fleet under De Ruyter and a French fleet under Abraham Duquesne. In the midst of the battle De Ruyter is wrapped in a sheet by his crew and carried to his cabin.
