About this work

Burgomaster Adolph Westerwijk of Goes sentenced to death in a conflict with Stadtholder William III. The sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. The scene shows soldiers dragging the burgomaster's wife away as he is led out of prison, 30 December 1692.
