About this work

Satirical print on the setbacks for the French and Allies in the War of the Austrian Succession, 1742. An old woodcut is used for the scene, depicting the final episode from the story of Sorgheloos: Wealth, Sorgheloos, and Pleasure sit around a table on which coins, cards, and dice lie. Poverty, Pover, and Light Fortune stand beside the table and point. On the sheet, next to and below the scene, a dialogue between the players.
