About this work

The condemned mutineers of the merchant ship named the Nijenburg are executed in the dunes at Huisduinen. In the distance, a crowd around the gallows atop a dune, to the left the high dune named Kijkduin with a fire beacon, and in the distance the roadstead of Texel. In the foreground, several persons including a draftsman.
