About this work

Allegory on the majority of Prince William V at the age of eighteen on 8 March 1766 and his installation as stadtholder. The prince in armor with a command staff and Medusa shield receives the spear of liberty from the Dutch Maiden. Behind the prince the Dutch Lion, in the foreground a putto with the stadtholder's coat of arms and the attributes of Justice and Prudence.
