About this work

Satirical print on the oath-taking by members of the Patriot Society of Weaponry in The Hague, in the Koekamp on 7 September 1787. Members of the volunteer corps depicted as keeshonden exercising. On the left, an officer speaks with a donor. The civic guards are mocked by children in the foreground. In the margin, a twelve-line verse in two columns with a vignette in the center showing two knights between weapons and banners with the motto: For the Fatherland.
