Execution of Cornelis van der Burg, outspoken patriotic mayor of Bolsward, in Leeuwarden on May 16, 1789. As the mayor kneels on the scaffold, the executioner holds the sword above his head, and the death sentence is commuted to a banishment of twenty years.
