The soldiers of the British-Russian invasion force leave Den Helder on 29 November 1799. In the foreground, an English officer in conversation with a young woman, sitting on a chest marked with the crowned monogram GR. In the background, the lodging 'Het wapen van Haarlem' and troops departing in boats towards the waiting ships.
