About this work

Satirical print on the Batavian Rear-Admiral Samuel Story. Story was commander of the squadron of the Batavian fleet that, after a mutiny by the Orangist crew, surrendered to the British without firing a shot on 30 August 1799. This event is known as the Vlieter Incident. The weeping Story holds in his right hand a paper on which (in English) it says 'the traitors refused to fight'.
