About this work
Allegory on Freemasonry, ca. 1810-1840. Dark temple with groups of figures at three columns. Centrally two women illuminated by a young man (Beauty). The seated woman has a book open on her lap, on her head a diadem with compass, her right hand with gavel and square rests on a shield with the All-Seeing Eye. On the left Hercules with a lion in a muzzle (Strength). At the right column symbols of Minerva, arts and sciences (Wisdom).
